The Inspiration
Artist/Creator: Herbert Browne and Arthur Little, architects
Date of Creation: ca. 1902-1905
The keystone over the formal front entrance’s wide wooden door is carved in limestone, and meant to impress the first time visitor. Italian stone masons carved pieces like this on site, although their names have not yet been discovered.
The Flowers
Florist’s inspiration: In their most simple explanation, wreaths are symbols of infinity often used to decorate during special events. A deeper meaning is often derived by the materials used to design the wreath. My inspiration for Art in Bloom 2022 was the keystone decoration on the front portal of Anderson House. Stone is another “eternal” material speaking to the infinite symbolism of a wreath. On the wreath itself I have been literal, using flowers, fruit, and even scallop shells. It has been said that scallop designs in art symbolize the beginning of ones journey, which makes sense as front door decoration. Thus, this is the beginning point - entrance to the Art in Bloom Journey. Fruit and flowers stand for beauty and abundance. I am guessing that the leaves depicted in stone are acanthus, which is a symbol of immortality, again fitting with the theme of an everlasting circle - wreath.

Atelier Ashley Flowers
As a little girl I spent all of my free time outside - digging in the dirt, playing in the woods, and designing imaginary worlds out of the trees and plants that surrounded me. The best part was inviting the other kids to join in and share in the magic of what we could create together.
Thirty or so years later, nothing has changed. I believe the energy and vibrancy of plant material flowers, foliages, and fruits are elements of transformation. They are my tools for creating an intimate experience customized to your situation and floral needs. Each bouquet is a one-of-a kind, unique work of ephemeral fine art designed with love for you from me.
As an artisan florist, my strengths lay in the way I combine unique varieties of blooms and color palettes to produce a one-of-a-kind look that you have never seen before and will never experience again. Flowers are in my soul and clients who truly understand their power are my people.
