Spiral Marble Column

1st Floor - Ballroom

The Inspiration

Four rose-colored twisting columns support the musician’s balcony inside the Ballroom. Made of composite Verona marble, these spiral turned columns are older than the house itself.

The Flowers

Florist’s inspiration: Typically, once a flower dies it is thrown away. However there is a beauty in the passage of time, between the time flowers are still alive and connected to the plant, to the time they are freshly cut to the time they wilt away. After cut flowers wilt, for most people they no longer have a purpose. By creating this piece, I am capturing the special and intricate details that the passage of time has on flowers.

THE DESIGNER

Michelle Samson
MISA Floral

Michelle Samson is MISA Floral. Michelle is a multidisciplinary artist whose work in floral design explores the interrelationships amongst humans, architecture, fashion and botanicals. With heavy influence from textiles and textures, she seeks to express such relationships by blurring the lines of floral arranging beyond traditional design work, utilizing concepts involving movement, form, shape, and sculpture within botanical installations, set design, and editorial work. Her goal is to work with every aspect of the flower and plant to demonstrate the beauty of life. The fleetingness of a flower’s life is at the root of Michelle’s work. Her work, including experimentation with performance art, has appeared in exhibitions and art shows locally. She has also collaborated with other creatives, including working with two other local artists on the conceptualization of and production for the EXOTIC GOODS photography exhibition.
