The Inspiration
This now-headless marble statue of an ancient Greek woman has an uncertain history and could be either an original work from the fifth century BC or a copy made in the 17th century. Larz Anderson purchased it for the grounds of Anderson House in 1922 from the family of stonemasons who operated the Flannery Monument Company of Washington, D.C. It has been a staple of the garden since their creation.
The Flowers
Florist’s inspiration: “Greek nostalgia. Lost my head cherishing memories of the blue sea, and pink flowers growing in white stones.”
THE DESIGNER
Nataly Pulecio
Florencia Farm
Nataly Pulecio serves as the owner, lead farmer, and creative director at a local, organic flower estate, Florencia Farm. She is the passionate and creative driving force behind this cut flower boutique farm. Nataly’s floral creations embody the beauty of sustainable agriculture and landscape of the farm. Florencia Farm specializes in customized subscription monthly home delivery floral arrangements and provides florists and other businesses with their floral desires. The pure natural beauty of seasonal flowers grown at Florencia Farm is the essence of all her floral creations.
After training as a cadastral and geodesy engineer in Colombia, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia to start a new life with her husband. In 2017, Nataly quit her desk job to pursue her love for flowers. She trained as a cut flower farmer and learned the art and science of growing and caring for flowers. Finally, in 2019 Nataly and her husband established Florencia Farm. Since then she has been committed to working with locally grown flowers to create luxurious, nature-inspired, and one-of-a-kind floral art.
Nataly, a native of the golden door to the Colombian Amazonia, has grown surrounded by the wild beauty of the Amazon and developed a deep connection to nature. Her work is a celebration of nature through the art of flowers, which highlights natural beauty through floral arrangements with a wild touch that accentuates seasonal flowers.
PHOTOGRAPHED BY
Sarandon Smith
Sarandon Smith is a fine artist and photographer in Maryland serving the Washington, DC, Maryland and NOVA areas. Her background includes a formal art education as well as hands on experience working under talented photographers, artists, and designers. Her first love in art was painting and that affection has carried over into her approach to photography. The same principles of design that are used when you put a brush to canvas are the principles that make a photo into a piece of art.
Sarandon's degree in fine arts gave her a framework that is an important part of how she approaches the visual aspect of her work. Using dynamic light to enhance an image, or composition to emphasize the power of an emotional moment helps create wedding galleries for her clients that are strikingly beautiful and honest at the same time.
