Atelier Ashley Flowers - Murals of the Italian Garden at Weld (painting)

Inspiration Description:

Ashley selected the mural of “Italian Garden at Weld” by Carl Yens, because she was inspired by the soothing colors and aura of the painting.  With all the upheaval of the last year, it is important to find simplicity and peace wherever possible.  Ashley has tried to reflect this feeling of stillness and calm in the color choice and plant material selected for her Art in Bloom DC, floral design.  Deeply interested in the energetic or “Magic” properties of plants, Ashley chooses to incorporate Jasmine as a symbol of relaxation, Sage to bring awareness to the present, and Citrus for stress relief, positivity, and happiness.  The other flowers included add to the overall harmony and beauty of the composition.

Art Description:

Description: Murals of the Italian Garden at Weld

Title: Italian Garden in Brookline

Artist/Creator: Carl Yens

Date of Creation: 1909

Location: first floor, Winter Garden

The corner-turning fresco decorating the east end of the Winter Garden that served as the Anderson’s breakfast room was a glorious reminder of the magnificent Italianate garden they created at their primary home in Brookline, Massachusetts, called “Weld.” Two walls portray the stone terraces, colonnade, pergola and fountain. Lush greenery includes bay trees and topiary with large antique Roman urns. Isabel’s pet macaw, Anna is included along with a life-sized oriole to add to the reality of the scene.
