La Fleur Du Jour -Gilded ceiling

(architectural detail)

Inspiration Description:

I have always been drawn to the French drawing room ceiling with its intricate detail and gilded floral elements but as I entered the drawing room during the walk-thru, the ceiling came to life in my imagination. I could see all the intricate layers of floral textures in a 3-D representation and immediately knew I wanted to create an interactive layer of curling florets and gilded flourishes. The middle of the two larger wheels is filled with real gold leaf and flower petals to give a nod to the gilding of the ceiling and the sparkle of a traditional kaleidoscope. The drawing room historically has acted as a passageway for guests entering dinner and my floral kaleidoscope acts as a passageway into imagination and child-like whimsy, inviting you into a moment of escape through beauty and play.

This room decorated in the French style typically served as a passageway for dinner guests on their way to be received in the next salon.
