The Inspiration
The Andersons were enthusiastic motorists and commissioned these two murals—completed in 1909 by H. Siddons Mowbray—mapping their favorite driving routes (marked in red) in and around Washington.
The Flowers
Recipe: Rose Lily, Quicksand and Symbol Roses, Cappucino Spray Roses, Strawflower, Kangaroo Paw, Statice, Carnations, Blue Delphinium, Hanging Amaranthus, Bear Grass, Eucalyptus, Port Orford Cedar, Kiwi Vine Branches
Florist’s inspiration: In the sunlit Winter Garden of Anderson House, the luminous Map Mural captures the exhilaration of Larz and Isabel Anderson on the open road each time an engine from their prized automobile collection eagerly stirred to life. Red lines trace their favorite drives through DC and the rolling countryside. The geography recalls their favorite moments of shared delight suspended between destination and return. A time of youthful daring and shared delight with the frivolity of speed and modern freedom that only an open road, a fine motorcar, and kindred spirits can provide. The mural preserves not just routes, but the carefree pleasure and romantic adventure that defined their joyful motoring escapades.

Cynthia P. Klebonis, CFD, is the owner and lead floral designer of CPK Floral Designs located in Leesburg, Virginia. Her passion for flowers started as a young girl when she would create beautiful faux floral arrangements as gifts for family and friends. She feels blessed to have fulfilled her dream of attending floral design school and becoming a Certified Floral Designer by the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). Cynthia’s love of working with flowers inspires her artistry at a soul level so that the blending of shapes, colors and textures of her designs speak the language of flowers with the intention of touching the heart of the recipient.
