The Inspiration

Italian Garden at Weld

The 1909 corner mural done in oil-on-plaster mural by Carl Yens decorates the Andersons’ breakfast room. A vibrant reminder of the formal Italian garden they created at their primary home in Brookline, MA, called Weld, it features the stone terraces, colonnade, pergola, and fountain filled with lush greenery, including bay trees and topiary, and is accented by large antique Roman pots. Isabel’s pet macaw, Anna, is perched on a metal stand in the garden, and an oriole stands on one doorway frame.

The Flowers

Florist’s inspiration: Gardens have always been a place of inspiration for me. Naturally, I was drawn to The Italian Garden at Weld. The lush texture and color palette evoked memories of my time in Italy. Working in a painterly style with the blooms and foliage, I tried to capture the essence of the garden and the ornate beauty of nature.
