The Inspiration
Made during the Meiji period for use in temples, these gilt bronze lanterns are decorated with a coiled dragon around the base.
The Flowers
Recipe: Calla lilies, carnations, branches, among others
Florist’s inspiration: Japanese lanterns have long been used in gardens and temples to guide the eye and shape the atmosphere, creating a careful balance between illumination and shadow. In this tradition, shadow plays an equal role, with light revealing depth rather than eliminating darkness. This arrangement reflects that relationship, using contrast, spacing, and material to explore how light and shadow exist together and define one another.

Her background in community health and development further shapes how she approaches care, place, and connection. Surbhi sees floristry not just as design, but as a way to create moments of meaning, presence, and shared experience. Beyond her floral work, Surbhi finds inspiration and joy in exploring new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with her two dogs, Milo and Noah.
