Sarah Khan Event Styling - Mrs. Larz  Anderson (in white)  (painting)

Inspiration Description:

I found this particular portrait of interest to tackle as an interpretation in florals. Corsets and boning in dresses give such beautiful curves to a woman's body but there is still a physical aversion to staying constrained and desire to burst out of it and assume a natural and comfortable shape. The corset can be a restraint of a physical, thought process or emotional expression of a woman and I wanted to illustrate that through florals.

Description: Oil painting of a young Isabel Anderson

Title: Mrs. Larz Anderson

Artist/Creator: Cecilia Beaux

Date of Creation: 1900-1901

Location: second floor, Dining Room

This formal portrait of the hostess of Anderson House was completed just four years before the home was completed. Painted in oil on canvas, and in its original gilt frame, Isabel wears a white and cream-colored, off-the-shoulder evening gown designed by Worth of Paris, and a three-tiered emerald brooch at the center of the neckline. She stands in a drawing room at Weld with a light-colored fireplace, mirror, wall, and gold sconce behind her and a wood floor. A gold-and-black Asian folding screen stands in front of the fireplace opening. A crystal ball on an ivory stand and a small dark-colored sculpture rest on the circular-top table in the foreground, both of which are on display inside the house today.

Sarah Khan Event and Styling, Sarah Khan Bio:

Sarah developed an eye for creating luxury and beauty at a young age by building a solid foundation in handcrafted skills through the guidance of her mother and grandmother. The conglomerate of seemingly fading techniques of Pakistani and Indian arts, crafts, and cooking of days old took a new life as Sarah worked to keep alive tradition and melded her skills with the desire to create contemporary event experiences with nuances of culture appealing to South Asian's in the US. As the Creative Director, Sarah looks to every client as an opportunity to be a transformative visual architect and with timeless beauty at the forefront.

Sarah's work has been lauded in Harper's Bazaar Bride, Washingtonian Weddings, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style Magazine, Modern Luxury Weddings DC, and leading South Asian bridal blogs: South Asian Bride Magazine and Maharani Weddings. Her team was called to provide florals and set design for a welcoming ceremony for former President Barack Obama, an interactive floral dress for Cirque Du Soleil.
