Headless Female Statue

Outside - Garden

The Inspiration

This now-headless marble statue of an ancient Greek woman has an uncertain history and could be either an original work from the fifth century BC or a copy made in the 17th century. Larz Anderson purchased it for the grounds of Anderson House in 1922 from the family of stonemasons who operated the Flannery Monument Company of Washington, D.C. It has been a staple of the garden since their creation.

The Flowers

Florist’s inspiration: At She Loves Me, we try to let the flowers speak for themselves -- with some light editing on our part! For this outdoor installation, we wanted to make the florals feel as natural and environmental as possible opting for an overgrown effect and playful interaction between the hard stone and soft living.

THE DESIGNER

Holley Simmons
She Loves Me

Holley Simmons is the Founder + Owner of She Loves Me. Formerly a journalist, Holley brings a genuine curiosity and dedication to every opportunity that comes her way. As the daughter of a seamstress she spent her childhood stitching in shoulder pads and glueing rhinestones to everything - it was the ‘80s after all! She believes these early experiences coupled with her lust for the unknown laid the groundwork for a creative career.

She spends her days cheering on the amazing She Loves Me team, usually after bugging them to bring their thermoses home. She hates to cook but prides herself on making the perfect pot of popcorn.
